Jitka Svobodová (b. 1941), long-time Professor of Painting at Painting Studio of Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, is primarily known for her large-scale black pencil drawings, capturing details of everyday objects. These objects are taken out of their normal context and are placed before their viewer’s eyes as something completely new. As if she were a philosopher, Svobodová makes us see something that we do not perceive and therefore do not see.
